These weeds are more prevalent from mid-May through mid-August. This is why a maintenance program (twice per year) will not help with these weeds. These three weeds are the most difficult to control during the summer months. Frequent mowing during the summer will help prevent seeds from spreading.
Nutsedge
Nutsedge is a perennial weed that produces hard, brown/black tubers (nutlet) way down in the soil. It spreads through rhizomes and tubers, which can survive for years which makes it so difficult to control. Nutsedge can thrive in all conditions (wet, dry and hot) Nutsedge will never be fully eradicated since the chemical cannot get down to the nutlet. Nutsedge can only be controlled and that is when it is present.
Goosegrass
Goose Grass is an annual summer grass that thrives in compacted lawns. One plant alone can produce up to 140.000 seeds and is difficult to control
Dallisgrass
Dallis grass is a perennial warm season, grassy weed that grows in clumps and can survive in sand or clay soil with poor drainage. Like Nutsedge, Dallis Grass will spread underground tubers. Keep in mind Nutsedge is in the Sedge family and Dallis grass is in the Grassy weed family.

Fire Weed
Fireweed is one of the troublesome weeds of Spring in our area. It is a small weed but grows quickly. The good thing it is in the Thatch of your lawn not down into the soil. when you see it you can simply pluck it or just mow it down. It does not have a long life cycle. Our pre emergent works in the soil so with Fireweed being mainly in the Thatch the pre emergent cannot prevent it from growing. Seeds can blow into your lawn from miles away
Poa Annua
Poa Annua is an annual bluegrass that you will see in the cooler months of Spring and Fall. Poa annua will thrive in cool, moist conditions. Poa annua will die off during the hot summer months on its own.
